BOWE One software suite and the VEKtor reader: European premiereat Helsana

Insuring more than 1.8 million policy holders, Helsana is Switzerland’s largest health insurer. For the task of dispatching more than 30 million documents each year, this market leader puts its trust in innovative BÖWE Group solutions: two new Marathon16 high-performance inserting systems with VEKtor camera reader and the first BÖWE One software suite to be installed in Europe with end-to-end dispatch tracking at sheet level.

Switzerland’s largest health insurer’s core business lies in insuring individuals against the consequences of illness and accidents and during maternity and old age. With more than 50 branches and 3,000 employees throughout Switzer¬land, personal, decentralized, local service is guaranteed. In contrast, the insurer disatches the various related documents to its 1.8 million adherents centrally from its mailroom in Düben¬dorf on the outskirts of Zurich. As early as 1985, the company was using BÖWE SYSTEC systems for its inserting opera¬tions before installing the world’s second Marathon and other equip¬ment in 1998. When, after eight years of operation, the two extremely reliable Marathon systems were replaced by two new high-performance Marathon16 inserting systems with cut sheet units in September 2006, Helsana again chose the most innovative hardware and software system available on the market. One of the main reasons for replacement was the presence of end-to-end dispatch tracking at sheet level. The input channels of the two systems are equipped with the new multifunc¬tional VEKtor camera system which is able to read all commonly used codes – the first time this solution had been installed in Europe. As soon as the insurer switched from barcode to the two-dimensional data matrix code shortly after installing the solution, VEKtor was able to demon¬strate its qualities. "Because we use a large number of different letter¬heads for our various insurance products, the logo comparison capability that the camera system offers is valuable for us,” explains operations manager Urs Zech. "It guaran¬tees that the right data is always processed with the right logo.”

Comprehensive document tracking

Another European premiere took the form of the installation of BÖWE One at Helsana in November 2006. "The main reason for choosing BÖWE One was that this software product offers us compre¬hensive dispatch monitoring,” stresses Urs Zech. "We can see precisely when which document was sent and can be sure that all prepared documents are actually printed and correctly packed.” If, after a comparison with a target list, the software determines that certain documents have not been printed, it also demands the automatic printing of the missing sheets. In this way, BÖWE One ensures that all the company’s policy holders receive precisely the insurance documents that are intended for them.
